First Refractor Shard [Action/Voice]

[So, waking up in a strange place, with no armor and only a pair of pants and a book to your name? Not quite the way Mega Man figured the day would get started. But being no stranger to tech or mysterious things, he quickly figured out the journal as a means of communication... and stumbled across the guide while he was at it. So his first stop? The clothing store to get something other than cotton pants to wear.

Once he's done with that, and suitably clad in a blue t-shirt and jeans, he heads toward the weapon shop, in the hopes that his armor is there, even going so far as to talk to anyone who might be there.

After he's suited up in his armor, he'll go around town, looking, and gawking at things. He's obviously a New Feather to anyone passing by, why not bother this new kid?

Still later, when he's gotten enough squared away, he'll head to the Welcome Center to get his bearings... and make a log on the journal.]

[Voice]

So, uh... hey, Luceti. I was just wondering... what's there in the way of uncharted territory around here? And are there any ruins or anything that need exploring? If so, I'm your man!

...Oh, right. I'm Mega Man. Mega Man Volnutt, Digger and explorer! Nice to meet all of you!

[He hopes, anyway. This place is still foreign to him, but maybe meeting some people will make this all feel less... surreal.]

[Rydia's in the Welcome Center whenever he visits, putting away some supplies and glancing to her journal every so often. Upon hearing the door open, she looks up and smiles.]

Hello!

[Mega Man gives her a short wave, still a little awkward for being here.]

Hey! ...This is the Welcome Center, right?

[She nods, heading over.]

That's right. I'm Rydia, of the the volunteers. Please, have a seat--and would you like anything to drink? We have lemonade and iced tea....

[He'll smile pretty widely. Talk about hospitality. The situation might suck, but the people here sure are nice. He'll sit down as Rydia suggested.]

Hey, thanks. And some lemonade would be great, thanks!

One lemonade, coming up!

[She heads into the kitchen, emerging a moment later with two glasses. Handing one over to him, she sits down.]

So, what's your name?

[He'll nod in thanks as he takes the glass. Despite his armor, he seems to have surprisingly good control over.... not damaging the glass.]

My name's Mega Man. Mega Man Volnutt. And what's yours, Miss?

[Well, that's an interesting name. Rydia just goes with it, though.]

I'm Rydia...Rydia Highwind.

[A small smile; she's still getting used to that.]

Did someone help you into town, or have you been here a little while?

I got in this morning. I found my way here using the journal and the map it provided. Also found the guide. Been pretty busy running around all day...

[He takes a sip of that lemonade.]

It's nice to meet you, Miss Highwind. Got any advice about what I should do?

[She nods approvingly at what he's done, before taking a sip. This is one self-sufficient New Feather.]

Mrs. Highwind, actually. I'm married.

And you're welcome to stay here for a little while, until you've decided on where you'll live. That is, unless you've found people from home to live with?

[He shakes his head.]

No one I've found yet. ...I haven't made a call on the journals yet though, so I guess someone might be here?

...But I get the feeling I'm on my own. [It kind of hurts to admit that. Normally he's an optimist, but given the gravity of what he fell into...] And I'll help out while I'm staying here, anyway.

It's possible someone might be here. You never know; I've met some people here than I never thought I would see again.

[She smiles, not wanting to sugarcoat things but at the same time, there is hope.]

Thank you. I won't say no to any help, especially at this time. It's been so busy. Just make sure not to hesitate if you have any questions, alright? I'll do what I can to answer any that you have.

[He smiles. He's not picky either way.]

I read that our gear is supposed to show up, but most of my mods for my armor and Mega Buster weren't in the weapons shop. Is there any place else they might be?

The item shop, maybe, though that might be a stretch. I'd say give it a few days and go check the weapons shop again. Anything you had on hand just before you arrived ought to turn up, sooner or later.

Hopefully. I guess if they want to keep weapons from us that's one way to do it. ...But they could've let me keep my helmet at least!

[She shakes her head.]

Actually, they don't deny us our weapons. In fact, we often need them when we're drafted into battle. That doesn't happen as regularly as the experiments, but it still occurs every so often.

So the war is an actual thing... I was kind of hoping that was something that was really rare. I don't really like fighting very much.

[Despite walking around in a suit of armor with a modular energy blaster in the left arm.]

Still, it looks as though you can hold your own. If nothing else, you could be on the defensive team? The Malnosso usually drag in non-combatants as well, so they need protecting.

I could probably do that. I do have some experience with that, at least.

Still, I guess I'll worry about it more when it happens. Hopefully it won't.

[She nods.]

Since it just happened, I wouldn't expect it for this month. That should give you some time to settle in. Perhaps there will be something in October, but either way, there's no point in worrying about it. Either you'll be called or you won't.

What causes you to be called? Is it some kind of lottery or something?

If it is, it's one we have no say in. Either the Malnosso think we're suited or they don't.

[She leans back in her chair and takes another sip.]

A small portion of those that are called have something in the way of side-effects, as well. They last for a day or two and usually are nothing more than an inconvenience, though even an inconvenience can be deadly at the wrong moment. Mine, when I had it, was an inability to stay awake. I kept falling asleep every few moments.

...That's stupid, why would they do that to you? Something like that could get you seriously hurt.

[She shrugs.]

I guess they thought it was worth the risk, if they cared about my welfare at all. Really, we're just test subjects and canon fodder to them. The only people we can really trust are each other.

...Kind of sad that they feel that this is the best way to get results.

...But, what are most of the people like in the village? So far, people have been pretty nice.

[He hasn't gotten that many cracks about his name... yet.]

They are, and we live together pretty peacefully, despite our differences. Well, most of us. There have been those who held no regard for anyone but themselves and there still might be, though some have fortunately been sent home.

[She frowns in thought.]

That reminds me, I ought to ask for a revised list of said people.

[Mega Man... That sounds familiar... Definitely familiar. Maybe a video game character? Nah... That couldn't be it...]

Mega Man, huh? What're you, some kinda superhero?

...Not really? I don't have any superpowers. Like I said, I'm a Digger. I explore ancient ruins looking for treasure and stuff.

But you just said you're Mega Man. No one has a name like that unless they're a superhero! Like Gligarman, or that Wonder Gal that was here before!

...That is my name, though. I've been called that all my life. ...Though I think I heard Gramps say I was named after a video game character or something once. But he might've been messing around.

Okay, okay, so let me get this straight. Your name's Mega Man... And your old man named you after a video game character... But you're not a superhero.

...Yeah. That's right. I mean, I've done my share of fighting against Reaverbots down in the ruins back home, but I'm not a superhero.

Yeah. Robots from the past, built for... well, I don't know. But they don't like it when people go into the ruins looking for things.

[ Like she has much room to talk, but... at least she doesn't try to go by Lightning-girl, and at least she'll admit if asked about it that no, her parents didn't really name her something like that at birth.

There's a soft hm and then silence. That's... pretty much all she had to say on the matter. :| ]

I don't know about ruins, but there are some mountains around here. Maybe there's something cool up there!

There's definitely a lot of cool places to see, anyway.

Mountains? Hmmm... haven't really explored too many of those in awhile! Might be worth checking out sometime!

...What other cool places are there?

There's the beach and the battle dome, plus some tunnels below the village.

Tunnels? Sounds just like home. What do you know about them?

Not much. I haven't spent a lot of time down there, but I do know that they're another way to the mountains and the beach.

What kind of things do like exploring? Just treasure hunting kind of places or more historical?
